Falling Short

I am falling short, in many areas, including blog posts. 3 months is a long time! Way too much has happened to play "catch up" again, so I'll just share my thoughts.

Fall....I love fall and this year is especially nice as the spiritual atmosphere is calm. It is the first fall in 13 years that I am not on egg shells. In fact, I have relaxed to the point of "Falling Short."

I have to admit, life has been hard. Harder than I could have ever imagined, and I have not taken the punch as well as you would have thought. I am Wonder Woman, right? Not even close. Grief is such a horrible emotion. Is it an emotion? It sure feels emotional. Loss.....it is overwhelming. My daughter, deep friendships, church....the loss is far reaching. Sometimes it feels VERY unfair.

And it sucks to have to accept the reality of your situation.

But then you have to make the best of it, right? Isn't there always an alternative?

And if you trust...miracles can happen......

....like winning a hermit crab, while throwing ping pong balls, left-handed into a little fish bowl, set among many little fish bowls, all positioned to make it impossible to win.

So let's talk blessings and not losses for the rest of this post! Joe moved in and he has been such a ray of sunshine here!!!! He and Bud have really brought some life and laughter back in....see how God replaced one child lost to me with TWO brought home??

And with Joe, my grandchildren have been multiplied.....

....nah...that's the old bunch! ;) (TJ and Zach both had broken bones within 6 weeks of each other, and Emerson turned FIVE!!)

Lakota and Alijah, are amazing kids and we have loved getting to know them and love them like they are our own...which they now are!!! Double portion!!!!

And more blessings....one I am confident enough to share here.....

A new girl!!! Well a new, old girl....Kimi is the woman in Bud's life. They actually went to his senior prom together, and have rekindled their relationship. I think it is pretty serious. She is just the kind of girl to keep him on his toes. She is FUN and loud (she admits that) and is always ready to make you laugh and have a good time. You can NOT be sad around Kimi!!!! Did you know Bud's name is Kim? Yes...Kim and Kimi. This next pic actually shows her personality better.....

We LOVE her, and she makes my son SO SO SO happy!!!

She has a son, Dylan, who is 6, and so my Grandma cup runneth over!!!!!

It is wonderful to see God restore that which was stolen. Now I need to do MY part....more on that next time. For now I need to get back to my quilt.

{pretty, happy, funny, real}

Seems like if it wasn't for {pretty, happy, funny, real} I wouldn't be posting much at all! It is a strange season here in my home. I feel "quiet". Well for this morning I will share...first the {pretty}....

This trio of pumpkins holding pumpkin scented tea lights graces the kitchen table. It is much {pretty}-er in person, and I love the look on the table runner. Pumpkins make me {happy} and there have been plenty of pumpkins this week! I finished block 2 of Henrietta Whiskers. Even a crooked pumpkin makes me smile!

As much as I like the look of pumpkins, I love the taste of them even more! Weight Watchers has had an impact on that. I am 17.6 pounds down and do not want to mess that up with pumpkin pie! I did find this, which made me very {happy}

...and it gives my coffee a "dessert" taste for 1 WW point! Also, there is a wonderful pumpkin dessert that is only 1 WW point per 2x2 inch square....1 box of angel food cake mix (the one step, just add water kind), 1 15 oz can of pumpkin, 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice, and 1 cup of water. Mix and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. I top it with cool whip....my kids love it! It makes me VERY {happy}!
This is sad, but {funny} in a warped kinda way....she really did deserve it!

Because of PTSD, this time of year is difficult for Charlie-girl. Use your imagination, but it is less than fun around here. My mother and I decided to go see the movie "The Help". We had both read the book and looked forward to seeing it. She (my mom) told me it was rated PG, so I thought I would take Charlotte along....I would not allow her to read the book, but we were assured the bad part was not in the movie....by the way, it is rated PG-13 for some language. Anyway, I told Charlotte to be ready to go by 3 pm on Tuesday. I did not tell her where we were going. Little did I know, a neighbor girl had told her "If your mom ever tells you she is taking you somewhere fun, and won't tell you where, she is taking you to BOOTCAMP." Are you cracking up?? Poor Charlotte thought I was taking her to bootcamp!!! Nope....just a girls day out to the movie theater!

She cried so hard when we got to the parking lot, it freaked me out a little bit. We had to wait a minute before going in to meet Grandma! I don't care who you are...THAT IS {FUNNY}!
Now let's get {real} for a minute.....Life moves on. We all know that. Finally my son is putting on some much needed weight! He has gained 15 pounds in the last few months! What an answer to prayer that is.

He is also starting to "see" someone. I do not know how serious it is, and I don't need to know. I am still the only one not "over" the divorce. It feels like a death still. I know life must go on, and that is {real}

Bits and Pieces

Nothing major to share here today. I thought I would share a few tidbits. The 3rd PIF gift was received by Kathy, so I can show it to you now. It is a Rose of Sharon block. Hand appliqued and hand quilted, it is one of my favorite blocks to work on. I put it in all my samplers.

I would really like to do a whole quilt of these! Speaking of hand applique, I have set aside the last 2 PIF gifts for a bit (I have a year to do them) and picked up my own applique work. The next couple of pics are blurry, but you get the idea. I have added some leaves to the floral applique border and they look great! The fabric is perfect for leaves!

My favorite applique technique is needle turn. I have freezer paper underneath to give me a nice crisp edge. Once sewn on, I cut a slit in the back and pull the paper out.

Today I am going to applique more leaves while watching Gone With The Wind. Other than laundry and dinner, it will be that kind of day. I need it!!

Hey, remember how Sweetheart and Zach worked together to put a lock on the file cabinet drawer? (There was a keyed lock, but we never had the key) At the time they were doing it, Zach was not sure why. Later he asked me and I explained that it was to lock up medicines....Charlotte has acquired a taste for medications that taste "good".

Zachary looked a little puzzled and said, "You know mom, that lock isn't doing any good. All you have to do is pull the top drawer open enough and you can reach right down into the bottom drawer." My eyes got huge as he said this. Goodness!! I told him NOT to tell his sister that and hopefully she would not figure it out! Either he is extremely bright, or we are extremely dim!

Did you see the baby eagle hatch? I have been watching the Live Eagle Cam with the kids. So exciting to see the new baby come into the world. The 2nd of 3 eggs has a hole in it so another one will be coming soon. You can find other bird cams there too. My mom is watching the hummingbird babies...the mom comes and feeds them while you watch live. Very addictive, so make sure you have the time.

My oldest son moved into his new digs. The kids spent the weekend with him. They both love their "new home with Daddy".
