Memorial Day

Not a whole lot going on here today. Sweetheart has to work, so our Memorial Day is being spent just hanging around. Zach and Charlotte are doing some math and reading. Kyle is playing with Sassy and hanging out with the basketball and hoop. Me? I'm sewing leaves.
Just a lazy kinda day. The kids will play outside as much as they can stand to. It is suppose to hit 92 and it is already very humid. I am sure the shade will be the spot to be!
Charlotte plans to catch up on some school work she fell behind in. I am sure her embroidery needle will be in her hand at some point today....probably while watching The Waltons with her mother ;)She is growing up so fast. It is hard to believe she will be 14 in a couple of weeks. She is all excited about church camp. She is working hard for the privilege to go...that means school has to be in good standing. She is finally putting on some weight. She is medication free for now, which makes her very happy!
For Memorial Day, I want to express my gratitude for all our military, past and present. What an honor to know that we have such courageous men and women defending us and our land. I want to share a picture of some of the men I want to remember on this day. These are my Great-Great-Grandparents, Charles and Nancy, along with their children. My Great-Grandfather is William...top right corner. Charles fought in the Civil War, and their youngest son (bottom row, center), Charlie, fought and died in WWI. He died in France, leaving behind a little girl, who was motherless. His mother Nancy, raised that little girl after her son died in the war.Sacrifices have been made in war since the beginning of time, and they continue to this day. How important it is to remember.....
Now I am going to spend some time with an applique needle and some leaves while soaking in some Vitamin D from my sunny spot on the couch!!!

She Perceiveth That Her Merchandise Is Good

The grandkids are gone, and though I am sad, Sassy is thrilled! Emerson decided Sass needed to be in her litter box at all times....meaning whenever she saw Sassy, she would pick that kitty up and drag her to the box, saying "Kitty go potty" all the way!!!! Sassafras was NOT amused...at all.

I put my desk chair from the man room, into the studio. It makes a WORLD of difference in my ability to sit for longer periods of time at the machine!!! Zach and Em tried it out for size.
Emerson loves to watch me sew and hands me pins as she declares "I sew too." Yes, she will be a quilter!! Don't worry..the machine was not on!
I am getting ready to finish up a round of my latest, and largest, piecing project. This quilt has, and will, consume many hours of work. I anticipate some late nights with it in my hands. The next round calls for ORANGE!!!!! A light and a bright on a white background.
This passage of scripture from Proverbs 31 reminds me of the work being done on this quilt.
"She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff." Though my fabric purchases were made at my local fabric shop, these cuties were ordered from Daisy Cottage Quilting. The blue, floral, stork scissors are mine, and the angel scissors are for Charlotte. She LOVES them. She is really working hard at her embroidery and she is making an afghan for a sweet neighbor who gave her a bag full of wonderful yarn. If you haven't visited Sharon's shop, click on the link. She has a wonderful inventory, and my scissors arrived in record time!
That is all for now. Have a blessed Lord's Day , and I'll see you next week!

Back To Basics

It wasn't much of a computer break, but I was able to sort out my computer issues. I have given up facebook, except to answer messages and post quilt pictures. I plan to go back to my blog reading/posting schedule. My morning coffee will be shared with blog reading and commenting. I plan to post more here than I have been. I was going to wait til Monday to start, but so much is going on I thought I would post today.

Let's start in the kitchen. I made a Spaghetti dinner just the way Sweetheart likes it....no it is not homemade sauce. I made a wonderful homemade sauce, but it was too late....by the time I made it, my family was hooked on Prego. :(
I browned some Italian sausage.....
...made some homemade meatballs....
...and simmered it in the crockpot all day. It turned out wonderful!
Yes, my family also prefers Cole's garlic bread! It is amazing how they get use to something and won't give it up. They do love my homemade bread too. ;) I don't feel too badly using a jar sauce or frozen bread.
My grandkids have been here for the last few days. What a treat it has been! Emerson is talking up a storm, and TJ graduated from Kindergarten!!! Along with the joy, comes some mess. With all the kids here, things get out of shape quickly!!!

Emerson was suppose to be getting dressed, but instead got caught up in Dora!
She put that shirt on all by herself! She was so proud! Once dressed, they all headed to the backyard for some play. That gave me time to straighten up some...It is amazing how just a few things out of place can make things appear out of order. It took me less than 10 minutes to put things back in order. At lunch time, TJ explained the difference between Kindergarten and 1st grade. It was fascinating!
I put them all to bed late last night, knowing they would sleep in a bit in the morning. HA! TJ and Zach were up before 7! Zach was up before 6!!! They did lay and watch a show while I drank my coffee and jumped in the shower.Well, TJ watched a show....Zach went back to sleep!
Today is full of sunshine and outdoor fun! After lunch, TJ and I will come up with a special birthday dinner for his guy.....
....and tomorrow morning they will go to Daddy's house til Tuesday. Finally, it feels like summer is here!!!

Michigan Quilt Ladies

Still stepping away from the computer for a bit. I am realizing what a time stealer it is. I am coming to the realization that facebook is something that is a problem for me. It has taken over all my computer time and then some. I am not blogging near as much since I got on facebook and to be honest, I miss my blog. More on all that when I return (soon, hopefully).

The reason for my visit today, is to give a wave and hello to 3 beautiful quilt ladies I met at our local Denny's last week. My mom and I walked in at the same time and were captivated by their smiles and warmth. I thought in my head, "They remind me of quilter's, they are so sweet."...we all know quilter's are the NICEST women you could come across. It was just after that thought, that they mentioned they were on a quilting retreat and traveling from Michigan up into Wisconsin. They were stopping at local quilt shops along the way. WHAT A FUN THING!!!! Someday......

Anyway, I gave them my blog address, and I wanted to share a list of some other quilting blogs for them to visit. There is NO way I can list them all, so if you have a favorite that you want to share with these wonderful ladies...or even better, your own quilting blog, leave it in the comments for them to find.

Here are some names of a few of the quilting blogs I read....not the complete list, but enough to get you started. Just click on the names and off you will go.....

I have so many more in my blog reader, but I think this will get you all started! Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting blogs!!! You will forever be hooked!

Be Blessed, Bren

Catching Up

It has been a while. I thought I would share the highlights of our last couple of weeks. Mother's Day was fun. We had a cookout with my mom and sister. I love family get togethers. The very next Sunday, Zach was baptized.I had shared how I visited a new church, but we ended up going back to the one we had been "visiting" for months. The kids love it and I find the doctrine to be sound and the Pastor and his messages to be an inspiration. I just could not connect with the ladies. On Easter, I watched my mother, who was visiting the church, visit with many of the women and she seemed to connect just fine. After discussing it with a sweet friend, we figured out that maybe, just maybe, it was me....go figure. Maybe my face carried my nervousness. I made certain to relax my face and smile more and you know what....I had more women than I could count come up to me and greet me! That was a life lesson!!!!

Over the past 6 months or so, I have been dealing with increasing fatigue. I was getting concerned and thought maybe it was a thyroid problem, or worse. I found out yesterday, I have a severe Vitamin D deficiency. I am to take a prescription supplement for 20 weeks. I am praying I will see some improvement in my energy level!

I have made myself get things done, and even did some spring cleaning! I did my walk-in closet, which needed it desperately!!! Boy does that feel good!! I got all my winter clothes on one side.......and my summer tops, dresses and skirts on the back wall. The 3 baskets are for dirty laundry. How do you keep the laundry situation organized at your home? Here, each kid has a hamper and then I have these 3 baskets in our closet for towels, lights, and darks.
I got the shoes all weeded out and put back on the rack.Sweetheart asked me NOT to weed out his wardrobe. I know he was afraid I would get rid of things he wanted to keep. He is correct. I left his side alone, except for the shoes and making his side look "neater".
I found my favorite cleaners at Target. My sinks are all shiny and I bought the wonderful smelling hand soap for next to the sink.It hasn't been all work and no play. I have gotten some sewing done. I will be able to show you the progress soon.I had some special time with the grandkids on Sunday too...least we forget the important stuff!
Hopefully, my boost in Vitamin D will allow some major workout sessions to help me drop the extra weight I am carrying. My food diet has gone well and I have lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Now I am off to pick up the car I bought. Since Sweetheart has been working, and our oldest son is using our Jeep, I have had no wheels! That changes today!!!!

Have a blessed day!!!!!

Sunshine!!

We have had some nice weather lately, and the sunshine has streamed through the window beautifully. In the early mornings, the bunnies are all over the backyard, much to Sassy's enjoyment!
Speaking of bunnies, I have a few Easter pics to share. My children all ready for church on Easter morning..... My mom and sister joined us for church too! After a wonderful church service we all came back and had a cookout. The grandkids were with us this year, which made Easter extra special!!!
I will share more Easter pics next time.
Here is an update on the family....
Sweetheart is working LOTS of hours, but I am so grateful for the job!!!Charlotte is, well,.....Charlotte is Charlotte. She has good and bad days. School has been an issue here, but I think maybe, hopefully, prayerfully, she is starting a new trend.
She is enjoying her needlework, playing outside with friends, and hanging with her brothers.
Zach is doing well in school, and is looking forward to a summer break. We homeschool through most of the summer, so he may be an unhappy guy very soon! Oh well, we only work in the mornings. He LOVES that cat, and is spending lots of time outside playing with his best friend, Stephan.
Kyle is so glad the weather is nice. He is outside more than he is inside and loves playing basketball with the guys in the cul de sac!Me? I have been getting Bud and Rachel's old house ready for the new tenants. My sister in law, who lives in Colorado, owns the house, so I am helping her by showing and renting it. The new family signed the lease here this afternoon. I am so glad that is over!! Now on to some Spring cleaning around here and back to some quilting projects that have been far too neglected! My mom an sister are coming early in the morning to attend Mother's Day service at my church. How blessed can I be? 2 times in 3 weeks!!! Next Sunday, Zach is getting baptized, so that will be an event also!
That's all for now. I will come back early next week and share more! I'm sure this long post wore you out!!!
