Poundage

Let's face it. I need to drop some major pounds. I gained 35 pounds in the last 9 months (add that to the 35 I already needed to lose!)....no there is no baby to be birthed from that weight gain. Rachel lost all kinds of weight when she and Bud were separated, and I gained it all. Stress does different things to different people. I eat when I am stressed. I eat really high carb, sugary, ooey, gooey kind of bad stuff! Over the last month I have changed my eating habits and have dropped 8 pounds. That is not bad, but now it is time to ramp it up with some workouts. I HATE TO WORK OUT!!!! It messes up my schedule...do I workout in the morning? In the afternoon? When will I shower? I am a morning shower person....if I workout in the afternoon I will have to shower twice. Maybe I will change my showers to night time and do a wipe down after my late afternoon workout.....too much to figure out. I decided to just wing it. Today I did my workout at 11 and it is now 2:15 in the afternoon and I am still in my workout clothes and still unshowered! That will not work. It will be a work in progress. I did a 2 mile aerobic walk today. That was TOUGH! In this excerpt I am doing workout #2....it is FAST!

My mom gave me a great dessert recipe. It is very low carb, low calorie, and low fat. How much better can that be? You need
1 small package sugar free orange jello
1 small package sugar free/fat free instant vanilla pudding
8 oz Cool Whip
11 oz. Mandarin oranges drained and rinsed

Dissolve jello in 1 cup boiling water. Set aside til cooled. Add the instant pudding and stir with a wisk.
Fold in the cool whip and Mandarin oranges. Put in an 8x8 pan and chill for 2 hours. OMGosh it tastes like a Dreamcicle, only better. I bet it would be good frozen too.
I made a double batch using strawberry jello and fresh cut up strawberries. It fit nicely in a 9x13" pan. It slices beautifully! (I like the orange better) I better hit the showers if I plan on getting dressed at all today!!!!

I have the same dilemmas. I'm not a morning person. I sometimes envy my friends who are. I have two of them, both wear single digit sizes, both work out first thing in the morning, I'm talking 6 AM. I realize it takes discipline but I'm sure it helps that they wake instantly with lots of energy. Not me. I am a slow to wake, sluggish morning person. So the earliest I will walk is 8:30, figure in at least 30 minutes to shower, dress and put on my day face, if the walk is 30 minutes then anything I schedule for the morning must be at 10:00 or after. I know I procrastinate but that is what people who hate exercise and early mornings do. Each week, I say it will be different. Friday morning is my time to weigh and I even conveniently forget to do that. Its a challenge, I know.

I know exactly how you feel!!! I shower in the morning..I love it when my schedule works so that I can walk first thing then shower. I get meesed up if I have to shower, go somewhere, workout then shower again!! and I cant find a balance..the first thing that I give up when scheduling workout time is sewing!!! That makes me sad! sigh! Good Luck! If you discovery the answers let me know!

P.s. I think that you are beautiful!

Great job, Bren! I need to lose about 30 pounds myself and with two deaths in the past month, as well as taking my first to college, I just keep eating and eating. It doesn't help, so I don't know why I do it except that I have cultivated some really bad habits. They will be hard to break, but you have motivated me today.

I know what you mean. I think I'm going to get serious about dieting and exercising, but then life gets in the way. I'm going to copy and try your recipe. You have given me motivation.

I hear ya! I'm a morning shower person and always do my workout in the morning so I can then shower off.

However, there are days (like today) when that just does not happen. So I change in to my workout clothes in the afternoon, and do a complete workout. I then make sure I do a fifteen minute stretch/ cool down period. By the time this is done I am no longer dripping. I change back in to my clothes after removing lingering sweat, apply more deodorant and some smelly goods and call it good!

For the next several weeks my workouts will probably be taking place at night (no fun). I'm planning on rinsing off in the shower and get the get in to my jammies until I can fully shower in the morning.

Keep up the hard work, Bren! It pays off!

8 lbs in a month is perfect! It has taken me almost 9 months to lose 40... and now I need to add the exercise. I even have a Wii and that's not enticing me...

It is such a struggle! I fail miserably all the time...it's not like quitting smoking..you can't just stop eating cold turkey...well, and be healthy anyway...I keep trying to talk myself into trying again...no luck so far, but praying your weight loss goes quickly, healthily and well :)

I'm a morning-shower person too, so to get my exercise in I have to get up earlier . . . and I am not a morning person! It takes discipline that I don't seem to have, even though my life may literally depend on it. I'm supposed to exercise every day to keep my diabetes in control. The good thing is that my doctors both say that 30 mins. of walking is great; you don't have to have a full gym workout to do some good.

I'm going to try your recipe - it's diabetic-friendly!

Hi Bren,
I've added pounds this year, too. Our home was flooded in May (we just moved back 2 days ago) and I've done way too much eating.

Recently it occurred to me that I've forgotten what it's like to feel hungry. Anytime I feel the least twinge of hunger, I run to the fridge.

Now I'm trying to use hunger as part of my spiritual journey. I've given up eating between meals (I was shocked when I realized how often I was snacking) and try to give myself time between meals to get hungry. I use the hungry time to think of Jesus and my hunger for Him. It completely changes the focus of the hunger and that feeling allows me to crave something so much better than food.

Hope this helps.
Much love,
Pam in TN

I have given up on the weight loss thing~ and strangely have lost weight!
I like to shower in the morning, but in Summer, it is twice a day.
The desert looks nice!

Hi Bren,
I have the same problem (not that that helps you LOL)...I always eat when I'm stressed. So now I think I'm addicted to sugar.
Have no idea what cool whip is :D. Glad it tasted good.
